Tips to Keep your Dog Calm during 4th of July

While it's a fun time for humans, it can be a source of stress and anxiety for dogs. Here are some things to keep in mind to help your dog during this holiday!

The 4th of July is a holiday in the United States that involves fireworks, loud noises, and festivities. While it's a fun time for us humans, it can be a source of stress and anxiety for dogs. Here are some things to keep in mind to help your dog during this holiday:

  1. Create a safe and quiet space: Set up a comfortable area in your home where your dog can retreat to during the fireworks. Close windows and curtains to minimize noise and bright flashes of light.
  2. Keep your dog indoors: It's important to keep your dog indoors during the 4th of July celebrations. The loud noises from fireworks can scare dogs and cause them to run away or become disoriented. Make sure all doors, windows, and fences are secure to prevent your dog from escaping.
  3. Provide distractions: Keep your dog occupied with toys, Treats/Treat Holder, Interactive Puzzles or puzzle treat games. Frozen Kong Extremes can also be a distraction. Can stuff with BUDDY BUDDER which is 100% Natural Dog Peanut Butter and can also freeze it for hours of fun! They enjoy the Banana Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Peanut Butter flavors too. Also, can freeze yogurt. This can help divert their attention from the noises outside. Turning on calming music or white noise can also help mask the sounds of fireworks.
  4. Avoid bringing your dog to firework displays: Fireworks displays can be overwhelming for dogs due to the loud noises and crowds. It's best to leave your dog at home in a safe and familiar environment.
  5. Consider anxiety-reducing products: There are various products available, such as Bach Rescue Remedy Pet Dropper, PetHonesty Hemp Calming Chews, Organic Hemp Oil, ThunderShirt for Dogs or pheromone diffusers, which can help calm dogs during stressful situations. I use Wet Noses Organic Crunchy Dog Treats for administering the liquid droppers. They have little paw print indentations on the treat, perfect to hold the dropper's liquid. Best of all, they are human grade, USDA Organic, without corn, wheat, soy, preservatives or artificial ingredients! Consult with your veterinarian to see if these options are suitable for your dog.
  6. Update identification: Ensure your Dog's identification tags are up to date with your current contact information. In case your dog does get scared and escapes, it will increase the chances of being reunited quickly.
  7. Take your dog for a long early evening walk to tire them out.
  8. Consult your veterinarian: If your dog experiences severe anxiety during the 4th of July celebrations. They may be able to provide additional recommendations.

Remember, every dog is different, and some may be more sensitive to loud noises than others. Being prepared and taking precautions can help make the 4th of July a less stressful experience for your furry friend.
